Doing this assignment on boundaries I began thinking about a wall or fence. But after actually thinking about my past pieces I figured out what my main focus was… mountains, nature and real life. So of course with mountains being my concentration I took the task of making watercolors into a different way that you would normally see them. Being able to freely take my idea’s and put them on paper. Although unfortunately our society sometimes controls how we do and make certain things. Art is a way that everyone and anyone can truly express who they are. A way for them to connect with other people without having to find the words to use. We use our eyes the gift of sight from God. It doesn’t matter if you have a steady hand or not… you create what you feel… you express what you feel. Painting with watercolors taught me the art of control and proportions. In order to get the desired effect on paper you need to know what you want and how much of it you actually want. In my case I had a little bit of everything (ie. not a ton of water for a bolder color but just enough for the proper dripping look and feel.) With my concentration being mountains I feel as though I can relate this to almost any topic. Being the avid and dedicated mountaineer I am, being able to connect my past experiences to “boundaries” I did not find it too hard. Mountains have no roots they only go up and up and up sort of seeing it as having no boundaries on where to go. No restrictions. No one saying stop. For a climber it is like a little taste of freedom, never having to stop because they know that there will always be another mountain top to summit. Another cannon to sleep in. Another day to watch the sun rise and fall on Earth’s tallest places. And most importantly… another adventure waiting for them. Life has no boundaries, it just keeps going. The only thing that actually has boundaries is yourself. But you can’t always stop yourself short because of a fear of the unknown.
